Matthew Newton is a Costs Lawyer and Manager working at the Exeter branch of Burcher Jennings.
Matthew has extensive experience in his field and has been a cost lawyer since inception. He has been a Fellow of the Association of Costs Lawyers since 1998.
Matthew’s practice includes every aspect of costs law, related rules and the regulations that govern this area of expertise. He has worked with a broad spread of clients, including acting for international insurers and underwriters.
Representing both receiving and paying parties in civil proceedings, Matthew has proficiency and experience across personal injury, property disputes, contentious probate cases and the full spectrum of commercial claims. He has tested his advocacy skills in all nationwide courts in England and Wales, as well as the Supreme Court Costs Office and Appeals.
In total Matthew has notched up more than 150 hearings and his advocacy practice and skill is one of his great strengths. He can count cases valued up to £6.5 million in his experience and he is a talented mediator with proven success during Joint Settlement Meetings on costs.
Matthew understands the importance of both results and service when it comes to handling clients and achieves high satisfaction ratings from those he has worked with.
