Robert Parness, Costs Consultant

Robert Parness is a Costs Lawyer at the Carlisle Office of Burcher Jennings. 

Robert has over 15 years’ experience in civil costs, specializing in high value matters including catastrophic injury and clinical negligence work with damages and costs in seven figures, as well as more esoteric cases such as partnership disputes, defamation, trademark infringements, boundary disputes, professional negligence, class actions and a private prosecution for blasphemous libel. He also presents his own CPD accredited training to solicitors throughout the jurisdiction. For a number of years Robert was in charge of Burcher Jennings’ litigation team, heading a group of advocates attending assessment hearings up and down the country.

Robert represents both paying and receiving parties in all aspects of civil costs from Bill drafting through to detailed assessment hearings as well as advising clients on technical points of costs law and writing and delivering his own CPD material which has been accredited by the Law Society and APIL.

Robert currently represents a number of nationally recognized firms, particularly in the field of clinical negligence. He appears in Courts all over the country both at detailed assessment and costs management hearings as well as continuing to prepare and deliver CPD training to clients.

A veteran of myriad assessment hearings, including days long appointments in the SCCO, Robert has the knowledge and experience to advise clients accurately in difficult situations. Rob has also been a contributor to various legal journals over the years.
